Today is the office Christmas, err, I mean Holiday party. Walking in to work this morning I noticed I was the only person who didn’t decorate their office. I took out a red and green hanging folder from my file cabinet and quickly made a non-offensive, politically correct holiday decoration. I use to, maybe subconsciously, make an effort to be a little different, or maybe I was just indifferent. When I was fresh out of U of M and working for EDS (I think it stood for Everyone Dresses the Same since we all wore blue suites), I proudly drove my Kawasaki GPz 1100 to work; the only motorcycle in the huge parking lot. The exhaust would set off car alarms. Sweet. Now I’m 40-something and try to look like everyone else. It is easier this way I guess.
I don’t talk about bicycles much at work.

Your ref to the Kwaka brought back a memory of me standing in front of my beautiful Rosso red Ducati 750. My 21 year old teenager was only a few months old. I remember looking through the lens of my camera -and it striking me how tiny he was clinging to the bikes huge red tank. It was right then that I decided the bike had to go.
ReplyDeleteWhen my wife was pregnant with our first child, we took a trip across America on my BMW K100RS. It occured to me someplace in Florida that if we went down, it could very well hurt the baby. I carefully drove home and sold my beloved BMW motorcycle. Kids have no idea what you give up for them.
ReplyDeleteEDS... that's funny. My school is Birch Street=BS=... you know how it goes from there. So, I like the decoration & this evening I finally muscled down the fiber optic Christmas tree from the high rafters of the school storage space to appease 21 highly spirited children. Now for that hair coloring...
